LOCAL HERITAGE SITE VISIT BY HISTORY DEPARTMENT

The History Department of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha on 16th October, 2024 organized a local heritage site visit for the Interdisciplinary Course (IDC) students of 3rd semester as a part of their paper-Understanding Heritage.

Accompanied by 4 teachers of the History Department, the students numbering 71 in total visited the ancestral ceremonial site, Tssiingchenphen at Wokha village. The site has been developed by the Heritage Committee under the aegis of the Wokha Village Council.

Dr.Libemo Kithan, Associate Professor, Department of History, explained to the students the significance of the place in the Village remaking (phitsso-yantsso) ceremony. Here, the menfolk of the village would gather to participate in the traditional practice of casting away the agonies and misfortunes by hitting the log (ophya) with bamboo spikes (tangi) to regain good fortune in the village.

Through such visits, the Department of History hopes to provide the students with a connection to their past, enlighten them on the beliefs and purposes behind the customs and rituals practiced by their ancestors and also to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for their heritage.

The site visit was a very educational and enriching experience and met with positive feedback from both the students and the faculty.

The Department extends its gratitude to the college for its support in facilitating the visit by providing transportation and also to the Chairman, Wokha Village Council for granting permission and enabling the students to visit the site.
