INTRODUCTION

Mount Tiyi College was established in 1974 through the initiative of some prominent citizens of Wokha district with the vision to provide opportunity for higher learning to the people in the district, especially to the less privileged section of the society. The college initially provided pre-university course under North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and later upgraded to Degree Level in 1979. It was taken over by the State Government in 1987 and has been affiliated to Nagaland University since 1990. It is a co-educational institution in Arts stream only. The institution is AAA (Academic Administrative Audit) assessed by the Directorate of Higher Education Nagaland, with B+ grading, and is NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) assessed with Grade ‘C’ score. The college is registered under Section 12B and 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The college with its motto ‘Surge Et Luce’ or ‘Rise and Shine’ endeavours to serve, inspire and empower the young minds. In accordance with its motto, the college has produced many responsible and useful citizens and continues to do so; contributing their services to the state and the society in different capacities.

The college is a co-educational institution and offers Degree level courses in Arts. The College is committed to provide holistic education, uphold moral values and inculcate discipline in the students with the objective to mould them into responsible citizens.
