Mount Tiyi College, Wokha organised an Awareness Workshop on “Gender Parity and Sensitivity in Educational Institutions” on September 18. The event was conducted by the college’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Sakhi-One Stop Centre, and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Wokha.
In her welcome address, Dr. Bweyhunle Khing, Principal of MTC, commended the initiative, emphasising its educational value and potential to foster peaceful coexistence within the college community.
Dr. W. Meribeni Patton, Convenor of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell and Chairperson for the Workshop, delivered a keynote address underscoring the importance of addressing gender issues. She asserted that gender parity is a universal concern, requiring the involvement of both male and female students, particularly in a co-educational setting like Mount Tiyi College.
The workshop featured several resource persons, including Dr. Renabeni T Murry, who discussed gender parity and sensitivity in educational institutions. Thungbeni Kikon, Case Worker at Sakhi-One Stop Centre, elaborated on the legal aspects and support available for sexual harassment cases in the workplace. Additionally, Dr. Thungdeno Murry, Medical Officer at PHC Chukitong, addressed topics related to mental health hygiene and anaemia.
A significant outcome of the workshop was the establishment of the Women’s Forum at Mount Tiyi College, which aims to provide a supportive environment for all individuals.
The workshop concluded with remarks from Mhono Odyuo, an IQAC member, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue and action towards gender parity and sensitivity within educational institutions.
